The Slightly Less Ancient Town of Lostwithiel

In 1644, Lostwithiel was probably just sitting there minding it's own business when 10,000 Parliamentarian soldiers turned up and asked "Excuse me, has anyone seen a Civil War?" Luckily, there were some Royalist troops about and they organized a siege throughout August 1644.  Eventually, the Parliamentarians got fed up, and packed it in, leaving the town in a pretty sorry state, and the locals starving. Shame Martin & Fran didn't think of opening their "Great Pasties" Shop then.

After the local people had cleaned up the mess, Lostwithiel evolved to become the pleasant, picturesque and historic town that is well worth a visit, especially to try one of Fran Rigby's excellent Full Monty Breakfast pies. Parking is free, there are plenty of great places to stay, and the town is packed with antique shops. The town has been described as "pub heaven" by a dedicated soul with much knowledge of these things (Mr. F. Atbloke).A short distance away is Restormel Castle, and the World Famous Eden Project is nearby.
